Meet the owners…
The Smeltser Family
In 2020, our family made the move from Charlotte, NC, to the St. Louis area to be closer to our Midwestern roots. As we settled into our new surroundings, our daughter developed an interest in horseback riding. After a quick internet search, we discovered Lake St. Louis Stables – just a short drive from our home. We scheduled our first lesson, not realizing that less than four years later, this would become the very facility we now call Legacy Stables at Lake St. Louis.
In the early summer of 2021, Lake St. Louis Stables changed ownership, leading to a pause in their lesson program. This transition prompted us to explore other options, and we soon discovered Irish Fox Stables. Their highly recommended lesson program welcomed us right away.
Over the next few years, our daughter's passion for equestrian sports grew, igniting a love for the equestrian world within our entire family. As newcomers, we often found ourselves with questions and moments of uncertainty while navigating this new journey. These experiences gave us valuable insight into the challenges beginners face.
When the opportunity to acquire Lake St. Louis Stables arose, we felt a deep calling to create a facility rooted in peace, joy, and community. Our vision was to establish a place that educates and inspires riders of all levels—whether they seek weekly lessons to develop new skills or aim to compete at the highest levels.
We also wanted to empower parents as their children navigate the many aspects of the sport and provide all riders with a space to build confidence and experience the unique joy of having the barn as their happy place. At Legacy Stables, our goal is to foster a welcoming and supportive equestrian community for all.
